Equity Matters

Do you think Equity Matters? So do we, at the Equity Alliance at ASU! Welcome to our new newsletter, Equity Matters! Although the content quality remains high, you will find the structure and design have improved. Within each issue, articles will fall under one of four subheadings: Equity in Action, Tools You Can Use, Upcoming Events, and Equity Alliance at ASU Online. Readers will find inspiring stories and resources surrounding the monthly theme of each newsletter. Equity Matters reflects the collaborative relationship between the National Institute for Urban School Improvement (NIUSI), National Center for Culturally Responsive Educational Systems (NCCRESt), NIUSI-LeadScape, and the Region IX Equity Assistance Center, all a part of the Equity Alliance at ASU. For those of you who may not be familiar with our work, NIUSI has led the way in urban school improvement and inclusive schooling since 1997. Initiated in 2002, NCCRESt is the leading national organization in reducing the disproportionate representation of culturally and linguistically diverse students in special education. NIUSI-LeadScape is a project working directly with school principals to create inclusive schools for all students. Lastly, our most recent addition, the Region IX Equity Assistance Center, was awarded to us in October 2008 by the U. S. Department of Education, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Equity Alliance at ASU is a center designed to promote educational equity through access, participation, and outcomes. By pooling the resources and expertise of all of these projects, Equity Matters can communicate with the broadest audiences and provide the most innovative, vital and current information on issues in education, school reform, cultural diversity, disproportionality, inclusive practices, and much more. Equity Matters will keep you informed of the work of these projects as well as other news and information in related fields.

Equity Matters is a free publication.
