Motion ChartsNIUSI introduces the first use of the Google Motion Charts for special education data. This motion chart function was first developed by Hans Rosling at the Karolinge Institute in Sweden in the GapMinder project which explores relationships between economic, social, health, and political variables over time and to express those relationships visually. Here, NIUSI uses the same technology to visualize relationships between least restrictive environment, state special education population, and disproportionality. The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) has established a set of indicators to guide states in developing their State Performance Plans. The indicators that NIUSI displays here relate to Part B, Indicator 5, Least Restrictive Environment for ages 6-21, and Indicators 9 & 10 that address overall and disability specific disproportionality. Our displays use data from www.ideadata.org. For more information about indicators 5, 9 and 10, visit the Regional Resource and Federal Center Network. Click on the links below to begin to explore these data on your own.
